Estimating the Cost of a Nose Surgery

Nose surgery costs can vary greatly depending on the exact procedure you choose and the surgeon you choose. There are many different surgeries that can correct nasal problems and the cost of the surgery will depend on several factors. Cost of general surgery is generally covered by most health insurance plans. Because of this, the overall nose surgery cost typically is predicated by your insurance plan. Two procedures for nose surgery exist, which include open reduction or a more formally closed rhinoplasty, each with their own set of associated expenses.

Open reduction rhinoplasties are performed under general anesthesia and usually take about two to three hours to perform. Some patients may experience slight discomfort, but the amount is minimal. Drains are placed in both nostrils so that excess tissue and skin can be removed. The surgeon then pulls the skin back tight over the incision and sutures it closed. The plastic surgeon may also use skin flaps as a final finishing touch to the appearance of the nose.

Click here for more formally closed nose surgery requires general anesthesia and takes about four to six hours to perform. In this procedure, an incision is made at the base of the nose and the excess tissue and skin is removed through this incision. Drains are then placed in both nostrils to ensure that excess skin and tissue are removed. The surgeon then closes the incisions with sutures and you are usually left with tiny bumps that form the nostrils. The plastic surgeon who performs this procedure may also use skin flaps as a final finishing touch to the appearance of the nose.

A more common form of nose surgery is called an open rhinoplasty and is performed in a hospital setting. This type of nose surgery is more commonly done on patients who have a wide variety of cosmetic concerns and issues. Your medical facility may even provide this service in conjunction with other procedures or they may refer you for this kind of procedure. Your medical facility may offer general anesthesia or they may sedate you before the procedure so that you do not have to worry about the pain or discomfort after the fact. The plastic surgeon may even use a special laser to resurface your nasal bones and cartilage during this operation so that your nose may appear less pointed and straight.

Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery cost, may also include a procedure called a splint. The splint is typically made out of either silicon or vinyl. These materials can be molded to fit over the tip of your nose so that nothing is poking out. You would wear the splint while sleeping and it will help to keep your sinuses from drying out. A good splint will also help you heal faster so that you do not have to take any additional treatments for your nose after the surgery has been performed.

The last component of nose surgery cost will be the cost of the open rhinoplasty procedure. With an open procedure, a plastic surgeon can make small incisions along the natural crease under your nose. They can then reshape and sculpt your nasal tip by making incisions that are slightly smaller than the ones that were used in the first step of the procedure. This allows for greater freedom when it comes to altering your facial features. Your plastic surgeon can adjust the size of the incision, which is referred to as the increase of the genioplasty increment.
